To the bylaw enforcement officer who gave me the $222 ticket for have my harmless 12 year old, 30 pound mutt (that’s 65 in human years – a senior citizen) off leash in the Commons and “at large” (though he is always not more than 10 feet in front of me). Good to see you have an eye out for dangerous animals.
Good on ya too the useless council who bring a blanket law in like this to criminalize lord knows how many more dog loving, council hating citizens.
Well at least I’m generating revenue for the cash strapped municipality for their other useless cat bylaw.

Awesome Michael, too true! That by-law is there so the rest of the city doesn’t have to pick up after you Needlessly Hounded, if it is such a chore to do so then get rid of your dog. Hey Needlessly Hounded, it’s definetly a dissapointment to get fined for having a well controlled, harmless, ageing dog off the leash in a park. As the owner to a placid, gentle, well-trained dog, I’d feel the same way as you. Shittily enough though, these are the risks we have to take as long as it’s illegal. This part is for Christopher: where the hell do you see anything written about poop in ”Needlessly Hounded”s bitch??? Still traumatized from the other bitch, are we? Don’t assume that people who lets their dogs off leash dont clean up after them! And not everybody is within walking distance to an off-leash park. I myself am not even within driving distance, I’d have to spend $800 on a flght every time I want to let my dog off the leash, I dont live in a dog-friendly country. But you know what, wanker? I still let my dog off leash in quiet parks, because he deserves a little freedom! Christ, you and your fucking rule book.

If the title of the bitch includes referencing that the NEXT time her dog poops it will be on the bylaw officers shiny boots…I think it is safe to assume that he only approached her because heshe witnessed the poster not picking up said poop then noticed after that the dog wasn’t registered…I say this because the $222 fine is exactly what you get for unregistered dogs. It’s unfortunate she got caught because they will now try and prevent her from letting her dog off leash in off leash parks, on top of the fine they punish the dog. Having read the bitch and the title that goes with it, it was my interpretation that the threat of poop on the shoes ‘next time’ referred to the next time said bitcher received a $222 fine for having her/his dog off the leash. If bitcher had been fined for not picking up after dog, it probably would have been mentioned. All it said was that a fine was issued because the dog was off leash, there was no other reason given. Mind you, going to work at 7am through the commons, I see quite the amount of off leash dogs, and i’m not talking 30 lbs. Full grown german sheppards we’re talking. Having experienced a dog attack myself from a dog that was off leash in a zone where he was supposed to have been leashed, I understand the ticket. Had someone else been there with a dog, they would have questioned the officer’s action about not giving you a ticket. I love animals, but i’m not a huge fan of dogs, or some dog owners i should say. Some of them turn out vicious. In the city, where there are a lot of people, leash at all times. Doesn’t matter the size and age of dog. All animals can be harmful of provoked, and in some cases, not even provoked. They could just snap, as the one that jupmed on me because it was off leash. It was in a park where they were supposed to have it on a leash.
Hey Coyote, is it less ok to let a German Sheppard off the leash than it is a Jack Russel terrier? I understand why you’d be nervous of dogs after having a bad experience like that, and I also understand people tend to be more nervous of big dogs..but statistically speaking, it’s small dogs who attack much more often. And there are good reasons why German Sheppards are used by the police, military and guide services; it’s because they’re extremely intelligent, quick to learn, loyal..and most importantly, trustworthy! I hope I’m not overboard on this reply, but I’m a huge German Sheppard lover and I am really tired of people stereotyping these brilliant dogs.
Small dogs might attack more frequently but I wonder what the stats are on how much damage they do Vs. larger dogs. I like my odds versus a jack russel more than a larger dog that can fit my face in its mouth. I love dogs too, especially larger dogs, but not everybody out there trains them properly, or at all. I think leash laws are important to protect people from irresponsible owners.
Hey Miles, you definetly have a good point there, I’d much rather have my knees disfigured than my face! It’s the irresponsible people that ruin if for the rest of us. My poor dog was recently attacked while on leash by a starving, nursing pitbull, who was roaming free on a downtown street. Although she’s a sheppard, my dog was terrified and too bewildered to defend herself. I had to kick this pitbull whenever she went in for my dog’s throat, which was awful as well because it’s her scumbag owners I wanted to hurt, not the dog. it was terrifying. Fortuntely aside from a few cuts, there was no real damage to my dog, but that was because we were allowed to escape into a McDonalds restaurant. We called the police after Animal Control (which is closed on sundays!) but they never showed and the pitbull eventually wandered off. Nice!
