  1. You are absolutely right. I couldn’t agree with you more. I also find it hard to believe that not a single firefighter heard about that mess. EVERYONE in Nova Scotia knew about it and they’re all “if we had known we could have offered assistance”- that’s just my take. But you’re right OP, I’m actually surprised noone died. I for one am livid it. If anyone has a suggestion as to the most effective way to hold someone accountable or deal appropriately with what happened I would love to hear it.

  2. I think the fact that certain officials claimed after the fact that sending rescue personnel out would’ve been detrimental. That’s ridiculous and just his way of squirming out of the problem. WHY is the NS government not prepared for the first storm EVERY FUCKING YEAR? You know there’s a real possibility that it will SNOW in november, so wtf? Maritimers bitch about everything else — yet bend over and let the NS gov’t fuck them up the ass on this one. Fuck.HOW many people bitch about metro transit, yet can’t muster up the energy to get pissed over 1500 cars stranded in the frigid cold? Jesus.

  3. I agree as well. The government should have found some way to get out to the stranded motorists and made sure any were evacuated who wanted to be (such as people who had no significant other to “cuddle” with and/or had a low tank of gas). It doesn’t matter if they made a dumb decision to be on the highway. Having to leave your car in the middle of nowhere is punishment enough if any is needed.I don’t agree with Seven though. How do you know that “everyone” in NS knew about this? Did you take a survey? I personally had no clue about it until I read about it in the paper the next day.

  4. i concur with kitty…for living in a province which regularly sees significant snowfalls in november…why and how is it that our department of highways is never ready for the first storm. its goddamn maddening and extremely dangerous. so many people this time of year, out of their own stupidy admittedly, are not prepared to be driving in snow. the least the plows could do is plow the fucking roads. i was on the 101 on wednesday night near st croix during what could only be described as a moderate blizzard…there was 20 plus centimetres of snow on the roads….no plows in sight. it took me three and half hours to drive from the valley to the city. truckers had just stopped right in the middle of the roads. what did i hear the reason was…the plows had not been put on all of the trucks yet. COME THE FUCK ON D.O.T.!!!! who is running this circus anyway?

  5. Same deal on the Pass on Sunday afternoon, John. The entire stretch between the Folly mountain exit and the tolls were totally snow covered in blizzard-like conditions with traffic moving at 50km/hr or less. No ploughs. It was a hellish drive. I’m done with that worthless, piece of shit toll highway. I thought they built that thing to avoid the deadly Folly mountain highway. I’ll be taking the Folly exit from now on.

  6. Are you KIDDING me?! Was the excuse really that the trucks “didn’t have their plows on yet”?? Last time I checked we were living in Nova Scotia, CANADA – everyone knows winter starts in November. What are they, listening to the whole “winter officially starts on Dec 21” crap?

  7. I heard on the news this morning that snow removal contracts don’t begin until december 1st in most cases. ugh.
