So... what are we going to do about it ? anything or just complain ?
We have a new Mayor in town and a proactive Premier(giggle), lets get a management team in place with the understanding that they need to perform, and make them accountable. Halifax/Nova Scotia is one of the most desirable places to visit in NA, we should have been getting more business over the last few years at TCL, and now my suspicions are being validated. Too many people in this city are in these positions just to collect a paycheque while doing as little as possible
I hope a similar scale structure can be developed within the planning guidelines somewhere in the downtown. Attracting large companies to NS requires large concurrent spaces that are available. Height restrictions scare me as we may end up with a flat unappealing skyline much like the structures on Washmill. HRM by Design is a great start, but it can't be a static be-all, end-all. Structures need to complement each other and the plan needs to keep up with the needs of the city (not just the wants).
Thanks for posting Sam Austin...
This is the kind of vision that Dartmouth Centre needs...
This may be a good idea for buildmycenter, I like to walk when I can too...
ok... this article make no sense. On one hand he talks about the Rapa Nui deforesting and depleting all their resources to erect statues. And then tries to compare it to a 48 story building that consolidates some of the sprawl we are experiencing. The sprawl by way causes
traffic congestion, consumes wooded land, increases the cost of services, and so on.
There isn't even a valid analogy. With densification it is possible to drive your bike to work a couple of kilometers , instead of 10k while breathing in the exhaust of the commuters who live in the distant burbs.
quote- "It wastes the resources that could be spent on improved healthcare, sustainable
food, physical activity, education and art."
A 48 story building uses less power , water , materials, than the equivalent 4 story buildings.
it leaves arable land alone, you can walk to work , and it probably will have an art gallery in it ! sheeesh... if you are trying weaponize an argument , at least make some sense ...
And for the record- I think the building should be kept within the HRM By Design guidelines
I have been to Filpburger at least 4 times since they have opened. I'm not one for shoestring fries, but they are fresh cut ! all the burgers that I have had so far were exceptional. Darrell's is still my favorite burger joint , with Flipburger sitting at #2.
big downside with Flipburger... Noisy ! They really need to do something about it...
Re: “And round and roundabout we go....”
good commentary
Only concern with North American roundabouts is the length of our trucks ... but that is only a slight scale change.
