One of the best donairs in the city (Halas in Clayton Park West/Rockingham is the best), and the menu is crazygonuts. When friends lived on North Street, they ordered so much food from there, we got to taste test a new item - chili pizza. Oh man, that was our gaming night staple from then on. thanskgiving pizza, newfie fries, donair poutine, they have the best poutine selection in the city. Just...I'm drooling now thinking of it all.
Do yourself a favor...try it. Best "regular" pizza joint in the city - best one not named Salvatores really.
I'd like to try it, though me and my wife are not lamb fans. Mussels look good.
I have to say, the beer selection, from the online menu, looks sad. Needs more emphasis on local micros, less Coors Light, Bud and Molson. Craft beers and micros pair better with hand-made pub food than the mass-produced lagers. I understand you need some of the big "crowd pleasers" for bulk sales, but Garrison and Propeller are great breweries, and you should have Granite on tap - at least their Keefe's Irish Stout! One or two Propeller/Garrison offerings is not going to cut it, for me anyway.
I won't rate this, as I haven't been back in a few years. About 8 years ago, Dr. Sharps had some very very good pub ribs - tasty, flavorful sauce and not-quite fall off the bone, but very good for the price/location. 4-5 years ago, we went and the ribs were just boiled ribs with a cup of COLD sauce on the side. Totally disappointing. Manager agreed, and agreed with me that for a pub/tavern, there are 4 key things you can judge them by - burgers, wings, fries and ribs. You need to get those right. Dr. Sharp's didn't and I have heard nothing from anyone since that makes me think it's changed.
I'm not as big a fan of the extreme over-hopped American IPAs - I like a good hoppy IPA, but there gets a point where it's just all hops and no other flavor or texture is allowed to come through - Propeller's IPA is just about the perfect IPA for me, though Garrison's is no slouch either. But any attempt to bring new, flavorful beers into Halifax is good news. Best of luck!
