The Herald quotes one man saying he wanted a 50 storey tower, delusionist.
I'll mail him some Lego.
Shipping companies like options in case of strikes and Halifax is a useful option, to be played against US east coast ports.
Halifax could look well ahead and seriously consider providing LNG fuel for ships

hipp5 - compare policing costs with the police blotter and see where police are the busiest.
It seems reasonable to conclude that the low density of the former county requires much less policing than the high density urban areas.
I don't see why assessment could be a useful metric other than possibly showing higher incidences of crime in high density, low value areas. High value homes in 'sprawl' don't appear to require much policing resources.
I would like to see the metro murder rate before and after amalgamation because the murder rate for Halifax is now given for all of HRM, whereas previous rates would be city of Halifax and city of Dartmouth. Determining the place of a murder may be a problem in a number of cases.
Ask him what his father did with that large amount of money. Was he the man who owned a lot of property in the Creighton Street area and made quite a fortune from renting and dealing in real estate ?
Silly to compare a 10 acre lot in 2013 with land in 1968. People used to avoid Schmidtville in the 1970s and now homes are very expensive.
the dissent - you appear to be unable to understand plain language.
Policing budget for all HRM - $73.4 million, including $23 million for the RCMP who cover what was Halifax County. The remaining $50.4 million is HRP for Halifax Dartmouth and Bedford.
Population of what was Halifax County is almost the same as Bedford, Dartmouth and Halifax.
Obviously the cost of policing in the old county is less than half what it costs in Bedford, Dartmouth and Halifax.
The budget for all policing increased by 5% but the RCMP budget increased by just 1.5%.
Where does sprawl begin ?
thedissent - Fares asked community council for changes to the development agreement.
In his request he stated that there was no interest in the office tower. Go read the minutes. He could not rent the first building so he switched to condos. I said the office tower had been abandoned. My other reference is to downtown Halifax. Go read the minutes, and I am not providing a link - nobody bothers to read
And I hope all the new condo owners enjoy the train whistles at 2 a.m. right outside their home - I am sick of them already and I live well away from King's Wharf. The noise started after the condo was occupied.
The lady is shy. Her husband is not.
If classical music is your thing this is the only restaurant in metro where you can sensibly discuss the subject with the owner.
Or you can discuss the equipment if you recognise it. I have known the gentleman for many years and we often discuss music. If you take along an LP or CD he is quite happy to play it and enjoys the interaction with his customers.
Asians are very knowledgeable about western classical music and generally have good sound systems. You won't find Sony, JVC, Pioneer etc polluting their ears.
Re: “Why Halifax will never fulfil its mega-port Gateway dreams”
halifax resident - If Halifax stevedores/tugs/pilots go on strike the ships drop the cargo in the US. If US East coast stevedores/tugs/pilots strike the ships drop cargo in Canada.
Draw a great circle route from the western approaches to the English channel to Long Island
and see how close it passes Halifax. Containers from Halifax to Toronto take over 24 hours and a ship opting for NY rather than Halifax adds less than 30 hours. The ship is going to the US as part of its regular route. It will be very difficult for Halifax to be a much larger port, the savings are not obvious but having the port as a competitor to US east coast ports is an advantage to the shipping companies.
We are not Rotterdam and we are not Singapore.
We are backup.
