Salvatore Rinaldo didn’t exactly leave a trail of breadcrumbs for his sons, Tony and Sam, to follow. It’s more like a path that was coated in breadcrumbs, fried, and covered in marinara. Who wouldn’t follow that path? He was, of course, the founder of the original Salvatore’s New York Pizza (now Salvatore’s Pizzaiolo Trattoria). Tony […]

To Gaza with love
OTTAWA – 1977-1990 I come from a Zionist household. I learn from an early age that anti-Semitism is always on the rise, that another Holocaust is always just around the corner and that no matter what, Israel is always right. That’s a lot for a kid to handle. Twice a week, after regular school, I […]

Good Food queen Carol LeBlanc reports that the move was prompted by the Gottingen landlord raising the rent on the current space but not doing any work to improve it. Also, the location over on Windsor is well trafficked. Gottingen Good Food will close at the end of May and open in its new location the first week

Some bad news for fans of The Good Food Emporium’s dinner menu: The kitchen’s closed. About six months ago the 2179 Gottingen Street eatery decided to expand beyond its always-popular lunch hours to serve dinner Wednesday through Friday. The menu featured several Korean dishes, as well as Jamaican jerk tofu and Thai green curry—in all, […]
Good Food, indeed
I was almost ready to believe The Cure’s Robert Smith had somehow looked into a crystal ball and forecast this rainy week in 2009 when he wrote “Monday you can fall apart,” because the events of Tuesday broke my heart. Tuesday was the sad day that two of my pals and I decided to head […]
