SXSW Roundup
I have been getting a few emails with SXSW news so I thought I would share. Sadly Long Long Long will no longer be accompanying the Halifax contingent to the festival due to a lack of funding. The band says they’re still planning on a spring/summer 90-day tour through the US (with a few select Canada dates.) Duzheknew and Cousins will still be attending the festival as part of an insane 65-date U.S. and Canada tour. Carmen Townsend, In-Flight Safety and Rich Aucoinare also heading down, as is Jenn Grant.Halifax hip-hop will also be represented with the presence of
Are We Not Men? We Are R-I-C-H
Jenn Ivanovs all keyed up! HOYO! The seemingly inexhaustible Rich Aucoin was all over Montreal last weekend for shows both scheduled and spontaneous. After spending Friday opening for Of Montreal at Metropolis, Aucoin was woken from a deep Saturday-morning slumber by his bandmate Joel Waddel, who announced that Cage the Elephant had cancelled and Aucoin […]
The Coast does NXNE: A preview
This ain’t Toronto, or at least not the Toronto I remember. There’s a chain link fence cordoning off a large swath of the downtown core. Kites and radio-controlled aircraft, I’m told, are strictly forbidden. Poorly-marked CCTV cameras track every movement south of bustling Queen Street. Two-week summer condo sublets cost roughly $8,400. And there are […]
4 Important Halifax Artists According to Aux.Tv
So this popped up on my Twitter feed today (I’m tweeting like a motherfucker these days because I’m giving up Facebook, which is like giving up smoking and becoming addicted to jelly beans) – Aux.tv has unveiled their “4 Halifax Bands You Should Check Out” list. The people that they have gotten behind are Rich […]
England is Screaming
rich aucoin mind control As we speak, the Ghost Bees, Joel Plaskett and Rich Aucoin are all hanging out in Brighton, England with the likes of Groove Armada and Broken Social Scene, hopefully sharing bottles of Patron and cackling over their eventual domination of the world. They’re playing at the Great Escape Music Conference and […]

Rich Aucoin and Windom Earle tape release
Friday night, clear your schedule. Rich Aucoin has made party hats with you and your friends’ names on them. Aucoin promises “more visuals, light shows, balloons and confetti than you know what to do with.” He harnesses the power and energy of a Flaming Lips show all by himself, but Windom Earle is sharing the […]
Musquodoboit choir’s small wonders
The show’s set-list reads more like a college radio chart than typical choral fare. There’s no “In the Jungle” or “This Land is Our Land.” (Sorry, Pete.) There are a few special guest performers from the local music scene—Rich Aucoin and former Haligonian Mike Evin. And all 80 singers will be covering locals Aucoin, Joel […]
The First Aid Kit w/Rich Aucoin and The Stance
Coming from a sunny city like Los Angeles, you’d figure Darryl Smith would bemoan dealing with the Canadian winter he faces in Halifax. Don’t be fooled—the singer/guitarist/bassist for The First Aid Kit says he’d much rather be here in Halifax than in his self-described “paralyzing and strange” hometown. “I don’t like the winter, but LA […]
