Buy art for the Skatepark
Thanks to five years of wear and tear, the Halifax Common skate park is in need of a little TLC, and some park regulars have dug in up to their elbows to help make it happen. “Just like ball fields and tennis courts, skate parks are now part of the list of facilities that cities […]
Hobo With A Shotgun decks now available at ProSkates
You may have noticed a certain locally shot movie is opening in cinemas this week, a little something called Hobo With A Shotgun. Director Jason Eisener and producer Rob Cotterill were over at Pro Skateboards and Snowboards (6451 Quinpool Road, 429-6788) last week to help open boxes of Hobo decks, maple boards from Control Skateboards […]
Utility moves
Well, it all worked out. Shoptalk reported that the Blowers Street building was sold out from underneath Pro Skateboards and Utility Gallery, forcing both businesses to relocate. Pro Skates collected all it’s stuff and took its three stores to a shiny new location down Quinpool Road. One of its previous locations, 6070 Quinpool Road, a […]
Pro Skates is open
After many months of renovations, Pro Skateboards (6451 Quinpool Road, 429-6788) has taken the content of three stores, Pro Girl, Pro Skates on Blowers and Pro Skates on Quinpool just down from Video Difference and moved it all to the swanky new, split-level digs with floor-to-ceiling storefront windows, sandwiched in between Subway and Tim Horton’s. But here’s something else to consider: the former Pro Skates at 5222 Blowers will remain open with goods on sale that they didn’t want to bring into the new place: lots of Pro Girl stuff, purses and bags, shoes for men and women, snowboards, and
Go Local: Quinpool
One of the city’s main links between downtown and the suburbs, complete with gas stations and a McD’s drive-thru, it’s very commuter. But it’s a whole lot of community, too, serving as the west end’s Main Street. You can find all kinds of local restaurants—anchored by mainstays Athens and Freeman’s Little New York—and happening boutiques […]

The ProSkates move was prompted by the news that […]
Proskates goes home
After almost 25 years in business, Pro Skateboards and Snowboards (5222 Blowers Street, 429-6788) are changing things up again. They’re shutting down their three stores, the two on Blowers (including Pro Girl, 5240 Blowers Street, 405-3535) and Pro Skates Uptown (6070 Quinpool Road, 406-4006), and moving everything into a new location for September 1, at […]
Go local on Barrington Street
We’ve all heard about the problems on Barrington Street, but the real story might be how longtime retailers have managed to survive and even thrive downtown, despite the closure of businesses, which recently have included CD Plus, Carsand Mosher and Peep Show Girly Boutique. And at press time, we’re receiving word that locally owned outdoor […]
