Jason Eisener will battle some New York City Outlaws
Five years after Hobo With A Shotgun blew us away, Dartmouth’s Jason Eisener is gearing up to deliver the New York City Outlaws to the big screen. Entertainment Weekly reports that Eisener will be directing the feature-length adaptation of the little-known ’80s comic book by Robert Hussar and Ken Landgraf. The five-issue series follows a […]
Watch Chloe x Halle’s new video for “Drop”
Here’s a local connection: yesterday, sister-singer duo Chloe x Halle released a video for “Drop”, directed by Halifax’s Andrew Hines. It’s an absolutely stunning visual that complements an incredibly stunning song. Last year, after millions of views on their homemade Youtube videos, and a gorgeous cover of Beyoncé’s “Pretty Hurts”, Chloe and Halle Bailey were signed to Bey’s new label Parkwood Entertainment. You […]
Speed racer
“It feels like a kid just dumped its toys into a sandbox,” says Jason Eisener of this summer’s most enduring hit, Mad Max: Fury Road. “And Turbo Kid felt like someone dumped their toys into a sandbox—and there were toys from Masters of the Universe, GI Joe and Jem and the Holograms.” Eisener, away from […]

Check out Jason Eisener’s RiFF RAFF video right here
Director Jason Eisener cooked up a cool RiFF RAFF video last month, went to Sundance with S-VHS, then released this puppy for your eyeballs. Having done nothing even remotely as productive as that I am currently feeling shame. Other than that, the video has made me a) contemplate shaving my head b) change my current […]
RiFF RaFF + Halifax = BFFs
If you haven’t seen this already, take note. RiFF RaFF, who breezed through Halifax on January 11 for a show at The Palace, stopping briefly to shoot a music video with Jason Eisener featuring plenty of trophies, recently recorded an ode to Canada. There are a couple swears, so don’t watch this if you’re a […]
Hobo with a Shotgun kills Sundance
Could the incredibly fun, bat-shit-insanely sadistic B-movie Hobo With a Shotgun possibly stand a chance of breaking through to the mainstream? Yes, according to New York Magazine, who called the film a sadistic pleasure that made them laugh so hard they cried. Esquire tweeted, “Hobo with a Shotgun: gleeful Grand Guignol/Grindhouse lark has gags to […]
Hobo goes Sundancing
After covering Sundance in sawdust with his short Treevenge in 2009, Jason Eisener is heading back to the land of Ugg boots and duck lips with his new feature, Hobo with a Shotgun, starring Rutger Hauer and some familiar localish faces, such as Rob Wells, Brian Downey, Glen Matthews and Michael Ray Fox. Shot in […]
Hobo With A Shotgun -New Trailer, New Review!
I wonder if you, like me, saw the original Hobo With A Shotgun entry into the faux-exploitation trailer contest in anticipation of 2007’s Grindhouse and declared the competition to be over before it started? From the sublimely evocative concept to the vivid yet gritty circus of violence (not to mention David Brunt’s honest and bona fide performance), the trailer is a two-minute eye-ball massage for the twisted film-lover at heart. While the other eventual finalist trailers were well executed, they sometimes betrayed their superiority-complex to the genre outright, imbuing their work with a ‘Hey-guys-the-70’s-weren’t-as-crazy-as-us!’ cleverness. Hobo, honest to god, felt
Meet the man: Rutger Hauer presents The Hitcher
As Hobo with a Shotgun wraps up, I guess Jason Eisener and Rutger Hauer (the Hobo) have a little time on their hands. Eisener’s Thrillema film series is bringing in Hauer to present The Hitcher, at a special afternoon screening at Park Lane, this Saturday at 4pm. Rutger starred in the original 1986 horror film.
