Gold Winner Attica Furnishings Silver Winner Kept Bronze Winner Bellissimo Minimalism is in, but no one wants to take it so far that they’re sitting on a single chair in the middle of an empty room. Attica, thankfully, offers many alternatives to that. (Though, if you insist on that single-chair style, at least they can […]

Pillow talk with Girliture
Tanya Owen really cares about where you lay your head after a long day. She’s the artist behind Girliture, her furniture painting business that started focussing in on pillows this fall. “I’m not even sure what made me decide to try it, but I had been stenciling some furniture and thought I’d try one of […]
Buy Local profile: Karyn McCombe
Open for six years, the Euro-styled decor and accessories store Bellissimo has gone through many changes—moving up to the north end from its original location on Market Street, absorbing Abby’s Fabrics and last summer’s expansion. Owner Karyn McCombe says the changes and influx of new products makes it difficult to describe exactly what they do. […]
Bellissimo finishes renovations
Having closed for almost three weeks to complete a little internal restructuring, Bellissimo (2743 Agricola Street, 423-6014), which also includes Abby’s Fabric Shoppe, has now reopened. “We’ve expanded,” reports the delightfully named manager Lacey Fanjoy. “There’s much more natural light, which is important to us.” And, we’re sure, to customers. Along with the brighter store, there’s also a new design centre, a Maxwell fabric gallery, Duralee fabrics, new wallpaper, furniture lines and lighting lines.

Go local on Agricola Street
Stretching down from the north end, Agricola Street is a series of pauses, movements and environments. North of Young is the largely residential energy of the Hydrostone, but points south you’ll encounter the dominating presence of the Oland Brewery (3055 Agricola, 453-1867), then the distinguished formality of the antiques district just around Almon. Further south […]
