The New Year’s Eve party at the Cunard Centre last year was a fiasco: attendees complained of people not getting patted down at the door (or at least not properly, which caused fears that weapons could have been brought in easily), 20 minute-long drink lines and a coat check that got so out of hand people stormed the area, stole coats and left hundreds of attendees to face a blizzard with no outerwear.
But East Coast Dynamics, that event’s organizer, is planning another New Year’s Eve bash this year at the Halifax Forum’s Multi-Purpose Room.
“I wasn’t in change of hiring, I was limited to what I could do,” says ECD owner Brad Steeves of the Cunard Centre event, adding that at the Forum, all bartenders, security and coat check staff will be under ECD’s responsibility. “[We’ll be] looking after ourselves as opposed to having things looked after for us.” (The Cunard Centre declined to comment for this story.)
This year’s event will admit just 1,800 people, about half of the over 3,500 who showed up last year. Further, Steeves says he’ll avoid last year’s problems by having a free coat check that won’t be mandatory, and by having a large bar in the centre of the room, with beer tubs at various locations, to shorten lines.
Steeves says he has organized “20 to 25” successful events since last year.

Never ever going to one of Steeves’ parties ever again.
Is there a list of Steeves’s “20 to 25” succesful events?
This is awesome. Just yesterday I was doing a search through last years LTWWB for complaints about this very event (but gave up because searching on The Coast’s web page is a bit tedious) and here you guys have gone and done it for me. Hopefully people remember how memorable this event was for a lot of people last year and don’t attend.
@ Cranky – for your reading pleasure: http://www.facebook.com/#/group.php?gid=11…
Thanks but I knew about the facebook group, I was just kinda hoping to revitalize any LTWWB’s about the event so people who thought it might be a good idea to attend this event could be warned.
So what is it …20 or 25 events ?
or is it maybe 23 events ?
You can’t even keep track of how many events you successfully held !!!!
Then can you provide any proof of any of these so callled events , as per “sniffy the bee’s” post ?
Personally I can look up exactly how many projects I worked on this year, I have paystubs from each & everyone of them as well as invoices for any rentals or purchases required at them.
So please excuse my complete lack of faith in your 20 to 25 comment… I’m not sure if you could sucessfully tie my dog to his doghouse ! Would you possibly consider that an event ?
LOL !
So where is everyone now that the party went off with out a hitch and everybody that i have spoken too said they had a blast…and no there isnt a list of successful events but I know that I have been to more than 10 myself and I rarely head downtown…
