It’s only been open since the beginning of January, but Viva’s Café Grill Pizza (2103 Gottingen) has quickly become a part of the changing complexion of Gottingen Street. The location was once home to the pizza counter/variety store Razzy’s but a lot has changed from that place. An open-concept, unpretentious space, new owners have installed a number of seats and tables with a cozy electric fireplace.

“We’re thinking of bringing in a couch,” says co-owner and operator Anthony Francis, who says customers can expect to see more changes to the new eatery in the months to come, including a TV, a liquor licence and a patio in the summer months. Chicken shawarma, fish & chips, pizza, sandwiches and desserts are all popular on the menu, and Viva’s is open for breakfast, with coffee, espresso and a brunch menu on the weekends.

“We’re going to do a grand opening, eventually,” says Francis. “We’ll have cake and invite everyone. We’re waiting for the weather to get better.”

  1. I had lunch there recently, and was amazed at how good the shawarma was! I ate so much I thought I’d never eat again, but now I can’t wait to go back!!!

  2. I had a Mediterranean platter it was absolutely amazing. Shared with my son and still couldn’t finish it. The best stuffed grape leaves I’ve ever had and fabulous garlic sauce.
Must go back to try the fresh cut fries…
