A show of hands: who'll be missing Turnstile?

After 12 years of fostering great local artists and sharing the art of pottery with the community Turnstile Pottery Co-operative (2733 Agricola Street) has announced that come the end of May it'll be disbanding. The tough decision came up in January when its current north end home was put up for sale. The pending loss of the space in combination with some planned changes with the collectives current members sealed the deal that late spring would mark the end for Turnstile. "The co-op has been through one move already and that was pretty hard," says Elizabeth McAdoo, who’s hopeful that something new will grow out of the loss. "Really, there just isn't enough woman power to keep it going." The shared studio has helped over 40 potters and sculptors have a space to hone and sell their craft over the years, and it's also provided the public with a place to learn how to take the wheel and create. Turnstile will keeps its weekly drop-in class running on Thursdays (7:30-9pm) until April 11 and the storefront will be open Wednesday through Saturday until May 12 (1-5pm). A Pottery & Equipment Sale is planned for the weekend of May 11 and 12, marking your last chance to show some love for this gem.
