It’s that time of year again—the holidays are almost upon us. And
the pressure is on to spend, consume and waste. The Ecology Action
Centre, on the other hand, is busy prepping for its annual preemptive
damage control effort.

The Annual Organic Christmas Tree and Chemical-Free Wreath Campaign
invites people to green their holidays by buying trees and wreaths
through the EAC. All proceeds will go to EAC in support of its
environmental projects across the province.

To order, drop by the EAC table at the Farmer’s market November 21,
28 and December 5. Trees and wreaths can be picked up on December 12
between 9am and 1pm at the Bloomfield Centre.

Check out ecologyaction.ca for some alternative ordering options, including online orders.

  1. As much as I like supporting the EAC, and the super-great helpful friendly EAC staff / volunteers, I hate the annual trek to Bloomfield Centre because of the abysmal parking/traffic, but anyway this year I emailed Greg at Delong farms who tells me they will be selling what they claim are non-certified organic balsam xmas trees at the Clayton Park Sobey’s where the Lone Star used to be, starting Saturday December 12 and “every day till a few days before Christmas” – so this year we’re going to give them a try.

  2. not sure why, but Delong Farms website (which my previous post included) was deleted from the Coast comment. Anyway, Delong Farms website (easily googled) has a link to their explanation of why they consider their balsam xmas trees organic (but not certified).

  3. Well, Delong story short, it didn’t work out. When I showed up at Delong’s tree lot in Clayton Park this morning, they told me the trees are not organic; they use Roundup on them. So off I went to Bloomfield Centre in hopes of scoring an EAC leftover. No luck there either, but it turns out the same farm that supplies EAC also sells organic trees in Fall River at the Burgess Ultramar, so I got one there, and I believe they will continue to sell from there for a while longer (call Burgess Ultramar 860-1198 to check); they are located at 3170 #2 Hwy, Fall River – a couple of minutes off Hwy 102 @ exit 5.
