Good news in the south end! After two-and-a-half years of enforced idleness, Tom Vacon, owner of Tomavino’s Cellar Ristorante (5173 South Street, note new phone: 425-9111), calls to say he’s open for business again. Readers will recall that in 2010 Tomavino’s fell victim to a fire in the adjoining building, which also took out Thai Chin, Taj Mahal and CafĂ© Chianti, at least temporarily (all have since reopened elsewhere).
For now, says Vacon, Tomavino’s is only offering take-out, while final touches are put on the restaurant space, and while he waits for a liquor licence to arrive. Vano expects to be open for sit-down service in about a month.

Tim, information isn’t quite correct here. Vacon sold the company assets in 2008; the new owner re-opened shortly after the 2010 fire but closed the business down earlier this year. My understanding is that Vacon re-acquired some or all of the business back and Galaxy invited him to re-open in the old space. He has not been idling the business since 2010 because of the fire.
Also, the name (from the new menu) is no longer “Tomavino’s [Cellar] Ristorante” but “Tomasino’s Pizzeria.” Has apparently reverted to the pre-sale name (happily).
Does any one know who the old owners/managers were before the people running it now in December 2012?
