What’s wrong?
Three itty bitty lanes on Robie Street.

Who’s responsible?
Ken Reashor, god of traffic, 490-6637.

REMARKS
Robie is a problem from one end to the other, with too-narrow lanes and unpredictable intersections. Here at South Street, buses spill awkwardly into adjoining lanes. Reashor says a third lane allows traffic to flow more smoothly. Listen, Kenny: having more lanes doesn’t magically create more space. How ’bout we use fewer lanes and more buses? -Jonny Linds

  1. Huh? Sorry, I don’t really get this one, perhaps a bit more of an explanation is needed (or it’s just me), but one petty thing I will point out: South Park does not connect with Robie. I believe you must mean Bell Road, or just South Street, since that’s where the picture is taken.

Wanna see “too-narrow lanes”? Quinpool Road past Connaught Avenue to the Rotary is worse! Also, just about every road in Europe and even in Australia is narrower.

I’m all for some dedicated bus-lanes along Robie Street, though. Could do it from South Street all the way up to Cunard.

  2. Q south street does cross Robie – Its around the hospital and south street will take at the bottom to superstore on Barrington . South Park is the other end on the other side of Spring Garden Rd .Heading towards the CBC bulding.

  3. Ha ha, they fixed this up after I made my comment. I’m sure it originally said “South Park Street,” which does not cross Robie Street. I know that South Street does.

Finally, I get it now. The buses are too wide to fit into the “three itty bitty lanes on Robie Street.” This happens in a lot of places, though, and not only in Halifax, but in a lot of cities around the world. Many of these “On Patrol” complaints do just seem quite petty, though.

  4. How about get rid of the buses (or at least stop making HRM taxpayers subsidise it) You want to take a bus & it now cost 5 or 6 bucks , pay it or bloody well walk, crawl or bike ! I’m tired of paying taxes, taxes & more taxes to help out a system I can’t use, & will never be able to use unless they start running buses at 5 am & don’t stop until after 3 am !
Plus I moved out to the Country ,to get away from paying for sidewalks I never walk on ! Paying through the nose for water & sewer (do you have any idea how little it costs do maintain your own systems ?) Paying for bus service if its within 4 kms of your home …like anyone will walk 4 kms to get on a damn bus !
