The mystery is solved!

Last month, I reported that Yuk Yuk’s was considering, then re-considering, it’s move to the old Club Caliente space on Spring Garden. Yuk Yuk’s reps were rather cryptic about the whole thing, leaving us with a journalistic shrug.

But I spoke with Anthony Smith today, who tells me his version of events. he says that he was buying partial ownership of the Yuk Yuk’s bar, a deal that was to accompany the move to Spring Garden. The corporate geniuses at Yuk Yuk’s, however, decided against the move because, “they didn’t like the location,” says Smith. (Maybe Spring Garden is too close to tens of thousands of students with disposable income?)

Smith decided to go it alone, and is opening The Nuthouse Comedy Club (421-JOKE) in the Club Caliente space—he’s simply waiting to receive the liquor licence, he says, hopefully next month. He says he’s already booked Picnicface for twice-weekly appearances (Sundays and Tuesdays), and will tap into the same international comedy circuit that Yuk Yuk’s accesses.
