The Dawgfather PhD in front of the Dal SUB Credit: The Coast's archives

It’s a dog-eat-Dawg world out there, man.

Today, it was brought to The Coast’s attention the Dalhousie University’s celebrity chef, the Dawgfather PhD, has found a new place to sell his street meat.

The move comes after the hot dog doc’s court case against the municipality (an effort to halt a proposed bike lane that would affect his parking spot, which was in a No Parking zone) was dismissed back in April.

While dedicated patients of the PhD will now have to follow their noses and barbecue cravings to the corner of Barrington and South streets for lunch—it appears another, unrelated hot dog vendor has cropped up in the Dawgfather’s former space in front of the Dal SUB.

Twitter tipster @EhGwendo says the owners of the cart are well aware that the bike lane’s on its way, but hadn’t heard of the Dawgfather’s beef with the city.

  1. So after all the fuss and bother, he found a new home and all is well with the world. FFS.

  2. The idea of a bike lane on University Ave is silly. When class changes happens it is like the ant hill got kicked over. Did you ever see a student NOT staring down at an iPhone, 1 in 10 do not, this is only time to catch up to fb/twitter or e-mails.
Car and truck traffic backs up 3/4 of the way up almost every street around Dalhousie during class changes. Will bike riders be so forgiving.
This bike lane is un-nessasary, University Ave is a very wide dual carriage way safe for bikes as it is. Now take in the IWK’s patient traffic also crossing a bike lane… more bike pedestrian collisions.

  3. bikes are fine on the road… where they belong.. as a cyclist who uses roads I have never had a problem sharing the space with cars… however, as the occasional car driver to Dal, the loss of precious parking spaces on university will be a huge inconvenience special lanes for bikes just reinforces the car mentality that bikes do not belong on the road in the first place
