To the editor,

In response to the recent review of our restaurant, Mexico Lindo (“Down Mexico way,” May 31), where is Liz Feltham from? Where does she get her worldly knowledge?

In the eight years we have been in business we have had eight food reviews, from people like Bill Spurr, Steven Mahar, Robin Arthur, Valerie Monsour and even Lindsay Cameron (previously of The Coast). They all gave us good reviews and said that what we serve is authentic. But then along comes Liz Feltham and she claims that our menu is mainly Tex-Mex and says we should not say we are serving “authentic Mexican” food.

Out of all the other food critics, Liz Feltham is the only person that is knowledgeable enough to know that Mexicans aren’t eating Mexican food? I find that very hard to believe. I honestly feel that others know as much, or more, than she does. Maybe she should take a trip to Mexico, visit a few homes and see what Mexicans actually eat at home, not in some fancy restaurant catering to tourists.

Number one: Ana, my wife and the person responsible for the cooking at our restaurant, is from Mexico. Number two: This is the kind of food that she was raised on; these are her mother’s recipes. We have never claimed to be about fine dining, just authentic Mexican home-style cooking.

Geez, if the food Ana was raised on and prepares for our many loyal customers isn’t Mexican, maybe she fooled me into thinking I married a Mexican.

  1. Hurrah Mexico Lindo! Having eaten in a few mexican homes and this fabulous restaurant, I have to say it’s the most authentic mexican I’ve ever had (outside of Mexico!) and the author of the review doesn’t seem to realize that there’s more to mexican cuisine than a certain set of standards she has in her head. Mexico is a big country with many regions and many different dishes, who are you to dismiss anything outside of what you expect as just “tex-mex”?
