Cold October sun, hot Moksha

Hot yoga. Holy hell. It turned me into a slug, a more flexible, totally drenched and exhausted slug. Bring a towel and a big bottle of water.

This morning I attended Natalie’s noon-hour hot yoga class at Moksha’s downtown location at 1512 Dresden Rd. It was packed with over thirty fit and not fit sweaty people, but it never seemed too gross and I never felt claustrophobic, perhaps because I was too focused on not falling over. The room was dimly lit with a cork floor and a huge wall mirror that was sweet for balance and sneaking peeks at others when I got confused. Even though I had been forewarned, I was shocked at how much I sweat during this class. Natalie kept the class moving at steady pace with enough guidance that I never felt truly lost. The temperature also increased a steady pace, but don’t fret if you need to yoga on the go, the studio’s change rooms are equipped for the much needed post sweatfest cold shower.

I wouldn’t recommend starting with hot yoga but if you’re familiar with (cold?) yoga classes you should definitely check out one — or both — of Moksha’s two locations: downtown Halifax and Bedford.
