Send out the welcome wagon, Agricola Street, you’ve got new neighbours. Out for a lunchtime stroll I was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon the brand spankin’ new Studio 14 Gifts & Gallery (2393 Agricola Street), a shop packed with wall-to-wall gift ideas transplanted from Moncton just in time for holiday shoppers to start going berserk. After moving to Halifax, second generation owner Jennifer Jacobson didn’t plan to re-open her shop until springtime, that is until she literally stumbled upon the perfect space. (Seriously. The massive windows of this storefront were just begging to have some eye candy behind them.) “Every day I’d do my morning walk and just go through different neighbourhoods,” she says. “And I just loved Agricola. It’s just really good energy.” She’s filled the bright new space with David Silverberg and Alex Colville prints, pottery, loads of collectables, Inuit carvings and vibrant jewellery from around the world (new pieces from Bali coming soon!). Plus, with 30 years experience, Jacobson can also assist with any of your framing needs: nice move in this artist-ridden neighbourhood. With Victor and Sybil Fineberg’s Hali Deli Old World Delicatessen (2389 Agricola Street) now in full-tilt, serving three meals a day next door, this block is looking mighty fine.
Jacobson’s shop is up and running with the regular hours of 10am to 5pm. Poke your head in and say hi.
