Shoptalk reported not long ago that former CBC Radio One Maritime Noon host Costas Halavrezos was now a spice merchant, operating out of the The Brewery Market also known as the Historic Farmers’ Market (1496 Lower Water Street) on Saturday mornings.
“It’s interesting to note that a significant number of people have told us they didn’t know the Historic Farmers’ Market was still operating,” writes Halavrezos in an email. “There are 70+ vendors now.”
Halavrezos is still bringing the spices, and due to customer demands, he’s now adding salt to his table.
“I’ve re-ordered a couple of the Salt and Pepper Kits (with three salts and nine peppers) and some more Bali Sea Salt for this week,” which can be seen in the photo here,

available for $6.50 a bottle, supplied by Montreal spice experts Epices de Cru. “And as always, we have six individual peppers for grinding and Mexican chili peppers, from Ancho Negro & Pasilla to Chipotle. And some Peri-peri if you need serious heat.”
Halavrezos describes the Salt and Pepper Kits (going for $28) as containing “fascinating Szechuan Green and Szechuan Imperial Red Peppers—which aren’t true peppers, but actually the husks of tiny fruits. A single pod creates a tingling sensation on the tongue and a lingering citrus taste. A very funky garnish.”

We are pleased that Costas has chosen the Historic Farmers Market which really is a FARMERS MARKET
