Happening from October 21 through 25 in Torino Italy is the fourth biennial, invitation-only Terra Madre conference, organized by the international Slow Food movement. Shoptalk has learned that 14 members of the Nova Scotia chapter have been invited. Michael Howell of Tempest in Wolfville and Chives’ Craig Flinn will lead the Nova Scotia delegation, which will also include Emma’s Eatery’s Kim Stacey, Local Source’s Sean Gallagher, Lil MacPherson of The Wooden Monkey and George Christakos, proprietor of Brooklyn Warehouse. The conference is expected to host more than 5,000 farmers and food producers, chefs and cooks, academics, youth and food community members. On the agenda will be the global problems of farmland preservation, food sovereignty, taste education, poverty and hunger, and the preservation of indigenous foods. The mission will also help focus on the development of the culinary tourism and agritourism sectors in Nova Scotia.
