To the editor,
Put aside your ignorant thoughts if you care about your fellow
Canadians, and I will tell you why I don’t want to see Paul McCartney
on the Common this summer.
McCartney announced that he is boycotting seal products, and expects
others to do the same. He is wrong, and a person is no better than he
is, should he or she happen to listen to his poisonous language.
Here’s the news flash, and it comes in four points:
1. People need to hunt seals, because seals are over-eating the
fish supplies. (You already knew that.)
2. Communities in Canada, most particularly the northern region,
depend on the fishing and sealing industries. They hunt seals to
help their fishing industry, and what do you know: Seals are useful as
well. If you ban seal products, then both industries in these
communities will die, and therefore, these communities will die. You
are killing communities in your own country. You are valuing animals
more than your fellow countryman.
A lady from Nunavut was in Ottawa defending the seal hunt, and was
interviewed on CBC. She even talked about the struggles that
anti-sealing would cause to the communities in Nunavut, because of
their dependency on the sealing and fishing industries.
3. The way that they “hurt” these animals is barbaric. If you
think so, then you are amateur historians. Don’t you think this issue
came up the last time they tried to kill off sealing? The modern method
of sealing is less barbaric than the way they used to hunt them. They
do suffer less.
4. They’re just fishermen trying to get richer during the fishing
off-season. No. A gentleman from Newfoundland who was interviewed
on the same CBC Radio program said so himself. He is a seasoned sealer
of nearly six decades. He said that for experienced sealers like him,
$25,000 was a good year. He said that he would never salute the maple
leaf flag, and that he was ashamed to be a Canadian because of the
protest against the seal hunt. The flag of Newfoundland that’s posted
outside his home was turned upside down on the day of that
interview.
If you are a true Canadian, then you will boycott Paul McCartney for
boycotting seal products. If not, then way to stand up for your fellow
Canadians. Now I really know what this damn country is all
about.
This would be just another reason to add to the long list of why I
detest this country that my people were forced into becoming a part of.

STOP embarrasing Halifax…for heaven sake!!!
First Celine with all of the ridiculous negative press, now McCartney!!
It’s no wonder Halifax can’t get on the world map for anything POSITIVE!
This really sucks!
This is concert promoting music, not about the seal hunt or any other personal beliefs!!
If you don’t like music, fine…no need to spoil other peoples enjoyment! Some people have grown up with The Beatles and consider this a once-in-a-lifetime thing, for God’s sake!!
Yes, it’s the SEALS that are over-fishing. Those little furry bastards are responsible for the dwindling fish stocks.
It has NOTHING to do with humans and our industrialized fishing practices. Scooping fish by the mega-tonne out of the ocean, every day…
Yeah, it’s those greedy seals. They must be stopped. I propose a no-holds-barred, shock and awe-esque, war on seals. Why club them when we could send some troops up there to strafe a few icebergs with heavy artillery. That’ll teach those seals.
ps I heard seals were behind the Kennedy assassination and may be responsible for swine flu. Tell your friends….
The Newfundland flag upside down- hahahaha
It’s exactly the same!!!! How can you tell it’s upside-down???
i guarantee that Paul will use this opportunity to talk about seals. that is why pro-sealers are opposed to this.
and you grew up listening to the beatles? NEWSFLASH! Paul isnt the beatles. he is 1/4 of the band. its like saying that i will go to a foo fighters show, because i grew up with nirvana. one has nothing to do with the other, except one band member.
its almost like a once in a lifetime chance to see an all-star cover band and pay hundreds of bucks for it.
You’re missing the initial point of this. It doesn’t
matter who he is. It is a test of whether
or not you care about the families who will
have nothing because of this. No wonder why
everyone hates Canada, because we hate our
fellow Canadians.
By the way, why would you like that “I Wanna
hold your hand” bullshit any way. That’s not music.
“I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die.”
Now there’s a lyric. That’s bad ass shit.
Westcoastkid….LOLOLOL…exactly…..agreed….those dang seals…cute and cuddley is just their disguise…. I think the day humans take responsibility for anything will be the day crime stops….
Why can’t Haligonians just rise above this so called boycott and enjoy one of the greatest entertainers of our lifetime…we need the money that this concert will bring…just relax and enjoy the summer
While this person is ridiculous – the seal overfishing thing is parshly true. We killed of all of the walruses that used to live around here, with no walruses to eat the seals the seal population booms and they eat more fish and take up more natural resources than they used to because of people. Honestly, I’m sick of this whole seal thing anyways. If you aren’t vegetarian you have no right to whine.
See http://www.sealsandsealing.net for good info on the hunt and the people involved.
you guys disgust me
killing animals because there overpopulating
oh gee i suppose we should go kill some of the indian population because theres too many people there
your talking about a life as if it is a piece of rubbish
and yeh we do hate you canadians
