The Quinpool and Vernon location of Perks (6100 Quinpool Road, 429-1856) has two big “closed” signs on its doors. Calls to the company have not been returned, and at the other locations mentioned on the company’s website—Mic Mac Mall and the Halifax Shopping Centre—the lines are disconnected.
Perks has been in business since 1989 and once boasted six Halifax locations. They recently shut their waterfront spot on Lower Water Street, now taken over by a Timmy’s.

Obviously run by very nice people, cheques bouncing and staff not given any warning…
They shut their doors on Aug. 31, 2011 for the last time.There was a Bedford location, a location at 1869 Historic Properties, a location at the Halifax Shopping Centre, the location on the corner of Quinpool and Vernon St., and the Perks Coffee in the Waterfront Campus NSCC. They decided to do this with no notice, or severance, as well as no paycheck for the last 2 weeks worked, and the paycheck from the 2 weeks before that just BOUNCED!!! I worked there for the last 7.5 years, and this is the way everybody got treated.
I guess I should have added that everybody recieved an email stating that they were financialy unable to continue. This was sent at 10:45 pm August 31, 2011. As I stated earlier…No Notice!!
The original owner was amazing, when he sold it everything went down hill.
