Goodbye Parkside Pub & Grill, hello Parkside Pub & Smokehouse (14 Highfield Drive, 464-1310). The Dartmouth pub is switching its name, and its menu, and installing smokers this week. The new selection will feature a brunch and a series of smokehouse favourites including ribs, brisket, pulled pork as well as a new pasta selection and homemade desserts.

Why the change? Why not!  “We’ve been thinking about it for a while and there’s quite a demand for that kind of stuff, so we tested the market and everyone was overwhelmed so we decided to go full blast with it,” says owner Dan Latter. He’s particularly enthusiastic about the new chicken poutine, which he says people are coming in more then once a week to enjoy. Uh, yum!

  1. The Parkside Pub in Highfield needs to get rid of its lazy unfriendly male staff to improve the place. I attended a fundraiser a few weeks ago and the doorman /bouncer was ignorant rude and very unhelpful.I had asked if he had a yellow pages book by him at the public pay phone. He acted like I had interrupted his eating pizza sitting on the ledge He said he didnot know if he had a phone book and kept walking.I asked 2 male bar servers….still nothing. As a patron at the pub I didnot realize my subtle approach would be lost but then relaized the staff was not the keenest or most attentive nor fittest so my request was lost on them. I wont be back, they can change the food all the want but staff that evening were not the most gracious and continued to serve people who were visibly intoxicated. I left before looking at the silent auction because I was too annoyed.
