To the editor,

Regarding Chris Benjamin’s “Drive-thru madness” (Feb. 5, Sustainable City), repealing the ban on drive-thrus in St. John’s was a mistake. Driving, unfortunately, is our main form of transportation, but would it kill people to get out and actually walk into the restaurant? I’d like to see mayor Peter Kelly and my councillor Sue Uteck start promoting a healthier HRM by adopting a drive-thru ban, plus an anti-idling policy. Halifax recently won the most sustainable medium-sized city award in Canada by Corporate Knights magazine. Our city could be more progressive, and win the award again next year, if we banned drive-thrus and the idling that accompanies them. Haligonians need to take a stand, literally, and say no to drive-thrus.
