Palooka’s Boxing Club, a “not-for-profit” venture from former DownEast Communications owner Mickey MacDonald, is holding its official opening this Friday from 3-4pm at 2110 Gottingen, a building that sat empty for years. Various Canadian boxers will attend, including George Chuvalo (once described by Muhammad Ali as “the toughest man I ever fought,” says the Palooka’s press release). The facility’s aimed at “creating an outlet for the community.” (I was an indoor kid, but I’ll appreciate the sentiment from a distance.)
