Acclaimed stylist and designer Deborah Nelson’s new home decor shop, Nelson & Co, is now open at 5881 Almon Street (444-6050).
Formerly Empire Shoe Repair, Nelson moved in and revamped the place to incorporate her own vintage inspired visions. Her professional rap sheet consists of style and design work for TV and print, including appearing on CBC’s TV show, Steven and Chris, as a design connoisseur for four seasons.
Nelson hand-picks and melds antique, often unique, furniture and home accessories, such as fair trade jute rugs and cotton blankets, as well as hand-knit plush animals from Kenya.
One dirty gift idea for this Mother’s Day is her Garden in a Bag. What started out as her personal gift giving favourite is now for sale in-house. Packaged flower and herb seeds are planted in the bag full of soil. Also available to compliment the package are hand-made gift tags.
Garden in a bag packages are priced regularly for $12.50. Other functional, rustic items at Nelson & Co. include tables, book cases and wooden tool boxes. Nelson & Co is open seven days a week and offers a design service.
