From birthing blanket to bottle to bibs, babies are born into a
complex world full of toxins and chemicals. So if a parent can take
steps to reduce their exposure to these elements, why wouldn’t
they?
Long-time P’Lovers staffer and mom Shelby Lendrum is an enthusiastic
advocate of organic and natural baby products. She points out that not
only do they reduce chemicals our children are exposed to, but in many
cases the clothes are stronger and more resistant (organic cotton, for
example, has more integrity than cotton made with chemicals).
“By making better choices [about their purchases], moms aren’t just
making a difference for their baby, they’re making a difference for
kids and people all over the world,” adds Lendrum. P’Lovers not only
ensures that its products are all organic, hemp or bamboo, but it also
tries to purchase as many fair trade certified products as possible,
and products that are made locally or across Canada. “People are more
aware that baby’s quality of life is not just about what we put on
their body, but also how we spend our money,” reflects Lendrum.

Something else we should not forget is that standard cleaning products contain toxins as well. If we dress our children in organic clothes but still use toxic cleaners, we continue to do damage to our children. There are many sources for non-toxic cleaning products, and some of them are even affordable and effective. Moms shouldn’t stop until they find products they’re happy with that they know are safe for their children…and this goes for all the products we use in our homes.
