Mosaic Social Dining Lounge (1584 Argyle Street, 405-4700) recently changed ownership, and Shoptalk was informed by DJ/promoter Cameron Harding that while much of what has made Mosaic a downtown destination will remain the same—bartender extraordinaire Cooper Tardivel isn’t going anywhere—there’ll be a new and special emphasis on live music and the atmosphere it brings.
For starters, check out the Friday (November 27) and Saturday (Novermber 28) supper-club events, featuring a mash-up of DJs and live musicians—including Harding, Synchronics, MC Hellafactz, Steve Nurse, Sean Webber and Jay Andrews—bringing cutting edge electronic music to pulse out on Argyle. “This kind of urban supper-club experience is extremely rare, if not completely missing in Halifax,” writes Harding in an email. “The new ownership is committed to taking this effort to the next level” with a late night tapas menu and a five-night-per-week entertainment schedule.
“The focus will be on music from around the globe (music that the world is listening to, not just the crap we are fed from the mainstream radio here in North America). Mosaic is like a cultural oasis for music that goes relatively unrecognized and unappreciated in Halifax… we want to change that by exposing more people to what we are so passionate about and what we feel has true cultural significance in the local music community.”
