  1. Halifax is a boring city, with no ample Stadium seating , especially for men out for a good time and a sporting event.

Numerous adult entertainment outlets, a freindly
Casino and top notch night clubs and accessibility make Moncton lights out a better party city than Halifax and its dreary row house university bars and pubs.

  2. islander63 – just because Moncton has bilingual hookers does not make it a better place unless you prefer soixant neuf en francais et au naturel.
Who would want to live there ?

  3. Sounds like the other two posters have a bone to chew, so here’s a less biased opinion:

I’ll start out by saying that I’ve lived in both cities for years and years.. But I’ve gotta say, personally I prefer Halifax. I think if I had kids it would be a different story though. Moncton is a much more family-friendly place and most people can still afford houses there, unlike Halifax. The same house that costs $200K in Moncton I would be $300K-$400K in Halifax. That is a big motivator for many families to choose Moncton. But, if that isn’t a big concern for you then my vote would go to Halifax. Bigger city and more opportunity in Halifax. More stable economy too.. Moncton has been down-and-out a few times when a major employer pulled out (ie: ships, CN) but it’s always eventually bounced back .

At the end of the day though, the two places are only 2.5 hours apart so it doesn’t make that much difference. I’ve gone to Moncton for events when I lived in Halifax, and to Halifax when I lived in Moncton. It’s just not that far or that big a deal. Both cities have almost identical event calenders anyways. Both have beerfest, winefest, hockey, museums, concerts, shopping, parks, beaches, car shows, theatres, blah, blah blah… If you really want a noticeable difference, move to Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, or Vancouver. Moncton and Halifax are almost identical by comparison to those places.

If you’re an ethnic minority or are into other cultures’ cuisine you might prefer Halifax just for the more diverse population that grants access to a much broader spectrum of the world market. There are way more bars and restaurants in downtown Halifax. Nothing compared to Montreal but Halifax is the best spot in Atlantic Canada for that stuff.

Just my two cents after living in both places for most of my life.
