Hot damn, the entrepreneurial juices were flowing in Halifax this year. The proof of burgeoning business is in the numbers— the openings of new, exciting and expanded local shops and restaurants triples the number of sad departures and unfortunate closings. And what a relief, goodbyes are the worst. (Sniff Cafe Karachi, sniff sniff Video Difference.) Because of the 116 openings—and 38 closings—we didn’t have room to include all of the new locations and renovations that happened in 2016, but they’ve helped keep our streetscapes ever-evolving, too. Really sad to see Cherry Berry go, whose sorbets actually used real juice and kept the extra crap to a minimum . Now we are left with Goji’s , half their sorbets don’t even have juice in them, but if you’re a fan of “Flavor Base (High Fructose Corn Syrup, Water, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Acsorbic Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Modified Food Starch, Glycerol Ester of Wood Rosin, Natural & Artificial Flavors, Brominated Vegatable Oil, Red 40), Sugar, Corn Syrup, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Maltodextrin, Stabilizer & Emulsifier (Dextrose, Guar Gum, Methyl Cellulose, Locust Bean Gum” , then I guess you’ll like the taste.
