Though Truro is a little outside the range of The Coast’s Shoptalk, we thought it prudent to mention the end of a Nova Scotian institution: Margolians, located in the heart of downtown Truro, will shut in January 2012.
Margolians has been a family-owned and operated department store since 1923. “Four generations of my family have served customers and their families from the same building in downtown Truro for over 80 years,” said Robert Sidler, president of the company, in a press release.
He cited deteriorating economic conditions as the main reason for the store closing.

A wonderful place. So very sad to see it go.
Never been there, but very sad times to see a long time multi generational local business close.
Too bad, remember it well as a kid.
