Typically, business in the retail sector can slow to a crawl at this time of year as people take stock of the consumer frenzy of the holidays and shift under the weight of credit card bills coming in. This is why there are so many sales ongoing in downtown. We took a look on Barrington and witnessed Pewter Prezents and Classic Shoes (both in Barrington Place Shops, 1903 Barrington Street) offering 50 and 30 percent off select merchandise, respectively. Or at fashion destination Foreign Affair (1705 Barrington Street, 429-1407), they have their post-holiday sale going on, up to 50 percent off everything except the new spring stock. And a little further south, you’ll find calendars and datebooks 40 percent off at Little Mysteries Books (1663 Barrington, 423-1313). (Yep, that’s another fact of January: there’s no end to the deals on calendars and planners.) And at Renaissance (1549 Barrington Street, 422-3509) you’ll find their modern fashions up to 50 percent off the regular price.
