Shoptalk has learned there is a new place to eat in Dartmouth. Thanks to its helpful new website, Hami’s Cafe & Catering (79 Alderney Drive, 406-1777), we discovered that it’s a “labour of love” for owner Dan Hamilton, the Hami in the title.
“Picture an old fashioned New York pizzeria with Dean Martin playing lightly in the background. Good old fashioned service, the best pizza crust you have ever eaten and very clean—welcoming surroundings,” he writes.
“Now picture a modern coffee shop—with the espresso/cappuccino machine frothing up the greatest coffee treats. Then think of the best soups, sandwiches, deserts and salads you’ve ever had. Interesting art on the walls, inviting colors and of course the espresso bar where you can sit on a barstool and enjoy some conversation with the barista or watch the world cup on the LCD TV! Books, newspapers, magazines and FREE wireless internet access to use while you relax on our comfortable chairs with your cappuchino.”
Add to that a catering business and you have a triple-barrel service event. Hami’s Cafe had its soft opening last week, with the grand opening following in October. The hours are 7am-6pm Mon-Fri, 8am-2pm Saturdays.

I tried hami’s today. I had the signature sandwich and it was yummy! Great blend of flavours and generous (but not ridiculous) portion size. This is exactly what we needed in Downtown Dartmouth – a good lunch spot with quick friendly service, not too pricy, not pub food and not a franchise. The homemade cookie I had for desert reminded me of my Grandma’s baking. Hami’s definitely merits another visit.
Ditto on the comments above. It’s nice to see Dartmouth starting to be revitalized with great little places like this. The signature Hami sandwich(memories of a great sandwich I had in Florence, Italy) is delicious, especially with the cooler weather coming. But I have been there a few times now and tried a variety of things and have never been disappointed. Also, the atmosphere is refreshing with warm colours and great background music. Looking forward to many more visits.
