So I arrived in Montreal on Thursday and tore down to the Festival Mode & Design, an outdoor fashion festival off of Ste. Catherines, to see local designers deux fm, Turbine and Orphanage wow the crowds. Obviously my Halifax attitude of shrugging off the rain wasn’t shared because once I got there I found an empty, water-logged stage. Ain’t no wearable art, apparently.

But what was worse was the representative who told me that the show was cancelled completely and that was it, was wrong!! They did reschedule for Friday night (UPDATE: it was actually Saturday night and I missed it, but apparently over 5,000 people took in the best of Atlantic Canadian fashion, and that’s fantastic!). At that point I was sitting in the bottom of a drained out pool, watching people dance, which ended with a giant owl teetering in the middle of the pool and a sing-along in the dark.

  1. Actually the “TransCanada” show was rescheduled for Saturday night and we (deux fm, Orphanage Sunsets on the Eastside) got to show during the headlining band. It was awesome!! There were over 5000 people there cheering us on. And the best part? I got to plunk myself down in the VIP section an watch the whole thing in comfort and style. Cheers to Montreal for inviting us to this amazingly planned free for everyone event!

  2. So Sorry you missed the show Sue. It was AWESOME! the Designers actually showcased Saturday night and the National Parcs also performed for them. The night ended with the Couture Lingerie show right after! they had 425,000 people in attendance over the festival event days, and they are very excited to have AFW part of it again next year again !
