The trend toward gourmet, high-end burgers has been burning hot in places such as Toronto for the past few years, and we’ve been waiting for that trend to migrate east. We’re happy to report it’s happening in 2012, according to the website of Relish Gourmet Burgers. In the summer we’ll see a franchise from the Frederiction-based eatery showing up here, at a former location of Blockbuster Video (6024 Quinpool Road).

The franchisee is planning renovations before the opening, including waiting for natural gas to be installed in May, according to a report on allNovaScotia.

The gourmet burger experience generally involves a juicy, thick burger (both beef and vegetarian varieties) slathered with exotic, tasty toppings, including crispy onion frites, pepper jack cheese, pickled peppers, pancetta bacon, brie cheese, caramelized onions, grainy dijion mustard, sliced avocado, roasted peppers, basil pesto, kalamata olives and tzatziki sauce. Prices vary, but expect to pay $12+ per patty.

  1. Cheesecurds gourmet burgers to open soon in Dartmouth also ownen by a CHEF who even appeared on the IRON CHEF just about a year ago tonight I beleive

  2. i’m glad to see something go in there, there are quite a few spots for rent on quinpool

  3. “gourmet burgers” without a choice of local grass-fed beef, bison, or lamb? Not to mention the more exotic stuff like Kobe. Kinda disappointing.

  4. um, F!D? Brooklyn? Armview?

Are you guys just into cutting and pasting press releases now without actually reading what you’re posting? You suck.

  5. But we LOVE YOU Mr Cranky, especially that you keep reading and commenting (even as we suck).

The point you’ve missed is that while there are excellent, quality burgers to be found in the establishments you mention, there are no local restos solely devoted to gourmet burgers, a distinguishing characteristic of the trend happening elsewhere.

  6. 6 oz, 100% Certified Angus Beef patty, Relish secret seasonings cooked to 160 degrees

Oh boy, hold me back. Fail. McDonalds says the same thing about their frozen patties, you gonna give them props next?

  7. Yeah, I get that Carsten. I love you guys too, but I got a schtick going here. Gluten-free buns is a nice touch on their part, hope they’re true gluten-free.

  8. I’ve got to get Carsten’s back on this. Although there are certainly restaurants known to have a great burger, there are no burger-focused restaurants here that aren’t fast food. On the other side of things, I’ve heard only mediocre reviews of Relish from friends, although they know of people who rave about them. Time will tell for the Halifax incarnation, I know I have my hopes high.

  9. Hope it does better than Shopsys, the All-Hotdog joint that folded. Seating for 40 and frat-boy-esque themed menu items? They would have had a fighting chance in the BLIP. In that ghetto wasteland at the end of Quinpool I give them 2 years before they pull the plug, 3 if they like losing money.
