At Free Comic Book Day you might find deals on quality work like Canadian Cameron Stewart's Catwoman comics.
The annual comic book celebration
Free Comic Book Day takes place this weekend, Saturday May 7, at comic stores around town, including
Strange Adventures (5262 Sackville Street, 425-2140 and 101 Portland Street, Dartmouth, 444-2140). The Halifax store will also be taking over the Church of St David hall (1537 Brunswick Street) for the day since their space on Sackville is too small for all the punters. Strange Adventurer
Cal Johnston reports that
Iron Man will be in the house. Just follow the servo and clanking metal armour sounds.
You can bet there'll be plenty of things going on at the other peninsular comic stores; the new location of
Monster Comic Lounge (2089 Gottingen Street, 429-2398)---which right next door to their former location---and also up at
Quantum Frontier (3087 Robie Street, 446-8233).
And joining these fine comic emporiums is the new-this-week
Giant Robot Comics (114 Woodlawn Road, 404-8400), which may take the prize for having the coolest name of all. Owner
Darryl Wall has worked in comic stores before and decided Dartmouth needed a new one. His space is approximately 900 sq ft, full to the ceiling with new and used toys, games, and both new and back-issue comics. For Free Comic Book Day Giant Robot will be offering a ton of prizes as well as a grand opening cake with a superhero theme. Check it all out at giantrobotcomics.com.
(And yes, there will be free comics everywhere, but get in early, as they tend to get scooped up by the keeners.)
