Exciting things are happening at Fisherman’s Cove favourite Boondocks Restaurant (6 Government Wharf Road, Eastern Passage, 465-3474). The harbourside resto’s recently been taken over by Jamie and Fran Rouse—also the owners of Dartmouth gem Ma Belle’s Cafe (44 Ochterloney Street, 466-1322)—who’ll re-open its doors March 1 at 5pm. Possibly the most exciting change that’ll be made is that Peter Boudreau, the friendly face behind the beloved (and departed) The Fish Shop will be taking over chef’s duties, cooking up a brand new menu boasting seafood, burgers and sammies (with a local focus) plus a bar menu featuring a whole slew of appetizers to share. Though Boondocks and summertime usually go hand in hand, this spots’ open year round, seven days a week, and it’s even got a weekend brunch from 10am-3pm.
