The best thing about Dawn Sloane is that so many people hate her. You wouldn’t believe the expletives, putdowns and rude descriptions that are tossed my way concerning Sloane; they even make me blush—they’re that bad. She must be doing something right.

In truth, Sloane’s biggest fault is she talks too much, which is hardly a crucifiable offence. And all that talking is usually much-informed, even if sometimes she’ll talk both sides of an issue. Lately, she’s been lecturing the rest of council on responsible planning strategies, which probably only further alienates her but, thing is, she’s right.
I’m impressed that Sloane had the courage to oppose construction of a memorial to fallen peace officers in the Grand Parade—not because she has anything against fallen peace officers, but rather because she thought the memorial was a rushed affair that didn’t take in the overall context of the Grand Parade.

Sloane initially supported “tax reform,” but as the proposal was rolled out, she had the sense to see it wasn’t the fair doctrine it was sold as. Sloane also has very sensible ideas about parking strategies in the north end, and it looks like the rest of council is going to eventually embrace those ideas. Good on her.

  1. A loudmouthed, coarse, patronizing dumbass of a councillor who should never have been reelected after the first time. Is it possible to give a F-?

  2. The police memorial is disgusting.
The blue boys and gals across N America push the ludicrous notion ‘they put their lives on the line every day’ and always try to present themselves as being equivalent to the Armed Forces. The memorial should have been shunted off to the Police HQ instead of being a few feet away from the men and women who were forced to go off and die in 2 world wars and Korea.
One cop dies and thousands jump on planes to fly off to some remote place from Resolute to Tampa and parade around honouring ‘ a brother/sister’.
One giant and misleading PR exercise, not to mention the waste of money and GHG.
I don’t see construction workers doing that, and perhaps they should.
    So should fishermen.
The Federation of Labour should organise an annual giant march in Halifax each fall to remember all the workers killed on the job, bus them in from all over the province and then stand outside St Paul’s and start a candle lit vigil. The media will lap it up, just as they do the annual police service in the Basilica.

  3. I think she’s literally (and figuratively) in bed with contractors, whom she will help land tenders.

Corrupt, like the rest of them. (opinion of course)
