Halifax council this afternoon approved a 25 cent increase in bus fares, with similar increases through the rest of the rate structure– monthly passes, etc.
The fare increase takes affect July 1.
See my news story on Thursday for more information.

I hope they also approved a bus TO THE AIRPORT.
Ha ha ha, silly Miss Thorne, that’s ridiculous.
Stuff like transport to the airport only happens when you host the Olympics!
So we’re paying 25 cents less than Montreal’s transit system, with less efficiency. Hm… Hopefully we get the same service levels soon enough. I won’t hold my breath.
Tara– when the airport bus comes— probably three or four years from now– it will be a long, windy route, that will take maybe 90 minutes from the peninsula. The idea is not to compete with the Airporter bus or taxis, and only to provide a way to bring minimum wage workers to airport businesses without paying them more for a travel allowance.
A bus to Exhibition Park during events would be worth thinking about.
