Remember when the corner of Robie Street and Bell Road looked like leftovers from some sort of apocalypse? Nowadays, it’s much the opposite. It’s an oasis actually, thanks to a bunch of hardworking folks who spent the past few months up to their elbows in earth at the Common Roots Urban Farm. And now that they’ve got one summer under their belts, it’s time to celebrate. This Saturday the farm will show off more than it’s great growth, there’ll be live music from Zulkamoon, Amy Lounder and Dusty Keleher among others, farm games (like the curiously named weed dating), demonstrations and a thank you dinner for those who dug in, or supported the farm from afar. If you haven’t gotten a close look at this amazing transformation, here’s your chance to do so. Also, the Common Roots crew is still working away for the next month, so lend a hand to their Art Fence project (Wednesday through Friday and Sundays, 3 to 6pm) or take part in a weekly work party (Fridays, 2 until 6pm)
