The website for Cargo & James Tea greets you with a jaunty jingle. (Your source for tea: Cargo & James!) Listening to it is pretty fun—which is reason enough to check out the Cargo & James that recently opened at 1239 Barrington. Our Cargo & James is the first to launch east of Edmonton. Howd it get here? Thank Becca Babcock, who owns the local branch (with husband Trent Soholt). Babcocks originally from Edmonton. When she moved to Halifax to persue a PhD in English Literature, she found herself missing Cargo & Jamess tea-cafe atmosphere. I had never had any plans to be a businesswoman. But…it seemed like the right thing, says Babcock. The shop carries a variety of quality loose-leaf teas from around the world which you can try by the cup in-store, or buy loose. Or, if youre looking for more excitement from your tea, the shop also serves tea lattes and tea slushes. (Take heart, coffee diehards: the shop will also soon carry coffee from organic roaster Kicking Horse Coffee.) Check out the shops grand opening and free tea samples this Saturday, from 4-9pm; the shopll also be running a buy-one-get-one-free drink special this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Poetry readings and live music should be starting up soon, too. Give em a ring at 406-4149.
