Just opened in the past couple of weeks, Boutique Joliette (1870 Hollis, 405-4057) is a stylish, new addition to the NSCAD district of downtown. “It’s been a life dream to do something like this,” says owner Alexis Mahoney, who left her office manager job working in the financial sector to open her new store. She sells all-Canadian designers in multiple disciplines, including photography and fine art, stained glass, jewellery and accessories, as well as a few vintage items, including lighting fixtures and antique floor lamps. Local artists with their work in the store include photographer Margot Metcalfe and jewellery designer Philip Doucette. “I’m trying to provide something of quality at a variety of price points,” says Mahoney. “Someone can buy something for $20 and it won’t fall apart on them.” She adds, laughing, “Or they can spend much more.”
