Angela Jones

Justice Arthur LeBlanc will announce tomorrow morning whether Angela Jones is in fact a valid candidate in the upcoming municipal elections. Today, after hearing arguments from Dan Campbell, representing HRM, and Matthew Moir, representing Angela Jones, LeBlanc asked for 24 hours to reflect on the case before reaching a verdict.

Running for councillor in District 4: Cole Harbour – Westphal, Jones was declared ineligible to run in September and requested a judicial review of the city’s decision. Early ballotting starts Saturday, and a list of candidates—without Jones’ name—has already been circulated in newspapers in the district.

The question at issue in the courtroom today was whether or not the returning officer and the Chief Executive Officer, acting on behalf of HRM, had the authority to declare Jones ineligible when her candidacy had already been accepted.

Jones says the hold-up has been hurting her campaign, but is asking for help from the community tomorrow if the decision is in her favour. The decision will be announced tomorrow morning at 9 am.

  1. If she remains off the ballot she can walk across the street and feed the ducks and geese at Sullivan’s Pond otherwise she has a 3 mile walk to the district she wants to represent.
Cole Harbour, nice place to visit but she doesn’t want to live there – she’ll fit right in with Butts, and they can swap travel stories.
