Four Halifax councillors ran for provincial office but only one—Andrew Younger—prevailed. Younger’s win was all the more remarkable because he bucked the trend and bested sitting NDPer Joan Massey. Expect Younger to go places in the Liberal Party.

A byelection will be called to replace Younger on council; as yet, there’s no indication who will run.

Jim Smith, Debbie Hum and Steve Streatch utterly failed in their various election bids. Back to cat bylaws for them.

  1. Tough luck for stevie, what made em think he could be a provincial politician. at least he has his sister’s shoulder to cry on, after she’s done crying on his. (-:

  2. If a NDP candidate could not win in this election then it’s time to consider getting a real job. I predict Ms Massey will end up in the caucus office or working for another Dipper. She’ll collect a nice big 5 figure payoff from us taxpayers and never miss a day of work before starting her new job and even better she is entitled to an indexed pension. She has already been erased from the official Legislature page on the web.
No surprise Younger beat her, he’s articulate, intelligent and just delivered a new Boys & Girls club to his district. Massey has been largely invisible.
