Last night (Fri Sept 13) I watched groups of students from SMU and DAL roaming the streets, yelling, fighting, swearing and stumbling around in drunken states on Robie street.

Through the evening the groups continued to roam up and down and they got louder and louder as the night wore on. Nothing new, but still upsetting.
I heard there was an outdoor event at Dal last night and another tonight. Still nothing new, but nerve wracking.

This kind of thing is very unpleasant but it’s something I’ve learned to endure with much anxiety as there is usually some kind of vandalism that goes along with it.
Well, I finally went to bed at 12:30am Sat and was awakened at approx. 1:00 am by a really loud BOOM !

I listened for a few seconds and heard young male voices saying “Holy SH&%” while laughing and running.

I went to my window and saw nothing.

This morning I found that a large rock was pried from the old retaining wall near the driveway and was thrown through the back window of my Dad’s “new to him” (3 months) car !!

My Dad is 93 and a decorated WWII vet.

I had to ring my Dad’s doorbell and ask him to come out to see what had been done through the night.

I’ll never forget the look on his face as he looked down at his car with the back window absolutely obliterated and a large boulder sitting in his hatchback !

I have been so upset since this happened and I’d give ANYTHING to have the names of these individuals who use their freedom and privledge of living in this wonderful country to do this to a man who fought and almost died for this country.

I live in my family home with my 93 yr old Dad and my 92 yr old Mom.

I’m sickened by this kind of spoiled and thankless youth that we have in this world today. I know it’s not all students but I’ve seen and heard my share of this kind of thing.

Over the years we’ve lost lawn furniture, had things thrown through house windows, had railing ripped off stairs and left in the middle of the street and on and on and on…..

My Dad will pay for repairs through his insurance but man oh man…if I knew who these ingrates were and who raised them, it would be a different story indeed !
I sure hope they are proud of themselves….it’s almost laughable…. ALMOST !

Do they think it takes skill or intelligence to do this ?

Do they care ?

Of course not.

Drunk and seeking peer praise. That’s what this is all about !Pathetic COWARDS, that’s what they are ! —Susan

  1. Heard about your dad’s car on news earlier….terrible. Kids today don’t care of damage they cause..hopefully someday it will visit them tenfold…then they’ll understand their own stupidity

  2. Saw this on the news as well, Susan. Utterly disgusted, totally furious and wish to hell I could be surprised by such deplorable, single-digit I.Q. behaviour. Something similar was done to a bookstore that I worked at. Again, it was a moronic university student, from Calgary, paralytically drunk. I hope your Dad is doing well, and perhaps, just perhaps the perpetrator will realize the import of his brain dead actions. or, at the very least, he’ll make the mistake of boasting about it to someone who will inform the police. And students – It’s not “being a rat” to identify a creep who’s done something as wrong as wrong can be.

  3. Do you hate your parents Susan? Why do you allow your 93 year old Dad to drive?

Sure, he’s got 70+ years of driving experience… AND 93 year old eyes and reflexes!

    God! Stop the madness Susan!

  4. Might I suggest a security camera if you continue living in the student-heavy area? They ain’t gonna cop to their stupidity and every year will bring a fresh batch of disrespectful buggers.

And I’m going to get heat for this part that’s been bugging me since the news articles: While I commend your father for serving, it has no bearing on the rock and kid combo. Unless he was serving for the freedom to throw rocks. And I think I can be safe in saying that the vandals weren’t targeting veterans either.

  5. it would of not had the same weight if it read , ” rowdy students shot-put rock into Senior’s car. ” Or 93 yr old WW2 Veteran’s newly purchased car wrecked by uncaring University partying students.

  6. This was senseless and a terrible thing to do, regardless of who it was done to and how old they were, these vandals are just pure waste of oxygen.

  7. It’s not just the intoxication and stupidity, it’s the outright malice. I remember being intoxicated and yes stupid in my youth but I never went out of my way to damage things, to hurt anything. I don’t get that part.

  8. Hear hear Reg…can’t agree more…even as a kid…didn’t hurt anyone or property, just ourselves lol

  9. I think we had more inhibitions about misbehaving in public. even when drunk. and that came from childhood when if you acted up, anyone in sight would call you on it.

I am not one who believes that ‘everything’ was better in the old days but that is one of the things we have lost. the village raising a child.

if I were to see some 10 year brat in an alley trying to set a kitten on fire and hauled him up by the seat of his pants, I would be arrested.

  10. I shared it on FB as well. I’m sure it won’t result in the little turds getting any kind of reprimand but maybe (hopefully) they’ll reconsider next time before being a bunch of shit fucks.

  11. Whether or not it was uni students, all over it was a moronic act. If your place seems to be a target, install cameras and sensor lights.

  12. OP I went through my own phase of being a giant outdoor ass. But i never, EVER vandalized private property.

I’m really sorry this happened to your dad’s car… Not all young people do this sort of shit.

Check out Logitech’s WiLife security system. It’s a super-cheap option for camera security and you have access to it 24 hours a day online. It might be worth investing in. You’re looking at anywhere between 300-700 bucks.

But it’s not a new phenomenon either. Vandalism isn’t some sort of weird social-media-post-apocalyptic behaviour that just sprung up. It’s been around forever.

  13. Maybe something like the guardian angels protecting military funerals would be effective….line the streets and show that the city will not stand for this behaviour anymore. Get caught in a drunken rampage…loss of entire years tuition. that will really piss off mommy and daddy.

  14. At least we don’t have to deal with Westboro Baptist up here, Cuja. Good idea, by the way. I know there was some talk in Britain of yanking the welfare benefits of anyone convicted of taking part in the London riots. Typically it was opposed because it would be a violation of “human rights” As opposed to the rights of those who lost property and livelihoods to the scum who rioted. Sometimes I get the feeling that the more advanced we get as a socity, the stupider we become. >; )

  15. Ivan thanks, I wasnt meaning vigilante justice or anything like that, just would be eye opening for these punks if hundreds or thousands of people protested their antics by lining the paths they take to and from their dorms to let them know they are being watched and their behaviour is no longer accepted. id stand right in front of this gentleman’s house to make sure no more trouble came his way, armed only with a cell camera and 911 on speed dial in case they decided to bring more trouble to this gentleman.

  16. Seriously fuck 90% of college students, I find almost every one of them that I meet to be such self centred arrogant priviledged little shitstains. As soon as I heard that boom I would have jumped out, went outside in my boxers and American History X’d that little puke. You don’t mess with someone’s property especially a car.

  17. Endorsing the death penalty for petty vandalism…… Guess the Conservatives can count on a lot of votes from this site, lol.

  18. When the Campus Feminazis and the herd of steers who follow them get a free moment, maybe they could address the issue of Vandalism Culture. Theft Culture, too while you’re at it.
Hell, I’d say just lump it all together under a blanket Crime Culture.
But, I forgot, a lot of you Lefties consider the very concept of “property” (other peoples property, to be specific) to be somehow, a crime in and of itself.
    My bad.
