Alright, I know I’ll get flamed for this but can somebody please tell me how to respond to a personal ad on CL? Why do I have to know what type of server my email is stored on? Why do have to know its name? How would I even get that information? WTF?! Holy crap, this is frustrating! Please just tell me what I’m missing. I’ll read the comments. Be kind please, I’m new at this sort of thing. —People Actually Use This?

It depends on what your email is. Through an internet provider? Through a domain? Through a crappy free service?
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=types+of+email+server…
usually your mail server is either a pop 1- pop3, some servers requre a socks thing. if you use gmail, it can get weird. i know people who were ready to beat their computer to pieces. hotmail, yahoo, is about the best way to go. there will be those that say either of these suck, but i have never gotten a virus thru either. as to the name, that would probly mean your domain name, or of the i.p. that you use, eastlink, aliant, etc.
WTF is CL… Oh wait, I don’t really care… Good luck!
What I am assuming is the case is that you are used to using web based email, and CL uses a “mailto:” link for replying to messages? If you click these links in any browser it tries to open your email client (Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird) and if you don’t have that program set up yet the set-up wizard will ask you all of those questions every time it opens. Easiest solution is when you go to reply, right click the link and “copy link location”, or you could set up your email client. Despite what LS says, I found gmail the easiest to set up. Once you enable pop mail in gmail it will tell you all of those settings for your email client, and you can even click a link for which particular one you have and it will be exact instructions how to do it.
