It’s a weird juxtaposition having to work at a grocery store where you serve people who are quite a bit wealthier than yourself, while you yourself have to go to the food bank to make sure you can feed yourself. It’s just odd being surrounded by food and yet not being able to buy much of it. —Maybe large companies should give out more hours

Okay, you can have more hours and they will take them from your co-workers! Or, you can get another job; or a better one…
The Myth of Tantalus – Millennial Edition
You need to start stealing from your employer. Food prices literally could not be any higher. I say go for it.
COHERENT JUXTAPOSITIONS

I’m one of the 1 %. I eat filet mignon and baby giraffes every night. You work for me. Be happy with your semi-slavery…for tomorrow we automate!
Surely you knew, OP, that the proletariat must be kept hungry and desperate in order for the systematic profitability designed by the 1% to work for them.
You should realize you are in a country where you can change your current outlook. There are countries with people who serve the wealthy and still have no access to food banks…
With millions of people overcoming obstacles every single day, your whine is particularly annoying. If you want to improve your situation, you’ll first have to stop envying people who probably worked long & hard for their money.
I have an acquaintance who began working at one of the large grocery stores part- time as a teenager and continued on part-time while he completed school.
He is a smart, ambitious, personable, and responsible guy, and after school finished the company has had him on an upward path of training and increasing salary ever since. What started out as a part-time job he plans to make into a career. The job opportunities go beyond what the public sees in the stores; there is also an entire structure that runs the whole enterprise that allows the store to function.
You already know that a part time job at minimum wage is not enough to to live on.
You want more? Then you have to do to things: you have to ask for more, and you have to be available to do more.
